As a church, we are in the middle of a fast to seek God and see what He does in and through us this year.
Fasting is the new fad… but it’s an age old method of separating oneself for the things of God!
These days people fast for dietary purposes and cleansing from all the junk we put into our bodies… fasting has so many benefits and the Western/American culture is finally getting on board with the overall benefits of fasting.
For followers of Jesus… the primary benefit of fasting is spiritual. While there may be physical benefits to a fast, God calls us to fast so that we are reminded who is the source of all things.
When you fast it’s important to remember that fasting a meal or meals is to be replaced with prayer and devotion to God. So it looks something like this… if you are fasting meals and you normally eat breakfast at 6am, you would instead sit down and find a place to read, prayer, worship during the time you would normally eat. You replace your physical nourishment from breakfast with spiritual nourishment from Jesus. The whole point of the fast is not to loose weight, cleanse, and get healthy physically… think of losing chains, cleansing yourself, and finding spiritual health instead.
